The American Scandinavian Society (A.S.S.) is seeking a webmaster. For over 100 years, the A.S.S. has been promoting and celebrating the cultural and intellectual ties between the people of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and the United States. We are a nonprofit organization that raises money to provide cultural grants for aspiring artists who bring together Scandinavian and American culture. We also run various events throughout the year, the biggest one being the Christmas Ball in December.
Responsibilities for the webmaster include the following:
- Maintain website updates (WordPress) for security, functionality and effectiveness
- Improve website quality, browser and mobile functionality
- Add new information for events and other features, such as cultural grant awards, etc…
- Create ticket sales for events
- Use social media and email marketing (through MailChimp) to promote events to members and non-members
- When possible, attend events and take or collect others’ photos to put on Flickr, social media, and the website
Required Skills:
- WordPress.org site management
- Some html and php, to assist with wordpress maintenance and small customizations
- Adobe Creative Suite
- A visual eye for posting clear and attractive events, photos, and event invitations
- Experience with social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
- A desire to be enriched by the Scandinavian culture in NYC
This position is for a minimum of 1-year long, with opportunity to continue. The webmaster will work closely with and report to the Communications Chair. It is expected that about 2-3 hours per week on average would be required, some weeks will be less, and others may be more before large events. It is preferred that you live in the NYC area, but work can be done virtually as well. Pay will be discussed.
