About Brian Andersson

BRIAN G. ANDERSSON was Commissioner of New York City’s Dept. of Records, which houses the City’s archives, from 2002 through 2010. He was in the news within the last month due to his role with the Jonas Bronck Center in Sävsjö, Sweden, as the 375th anniversary of the settlement The Bronx was celebrated. He has served as the Executive Director of the Ellis Island Restoration Commission and is on the Director’s Council of the Historic House Trust. He is a noted historian and genealogist.

brian-anderssonHe was a lead role on NYC TV’s “Secrets of New York” and “Inside the Archives.” He appeared in “16 Blocks” in 2006 and background work on “Boardwalk Empire.”

He is a native New Yorker and resides in the Woodlawn section of The Bronx.

Indeed, it is only in preserving the City’s records that makes it possible to transmit our democratic, cultural, and unique heritage to future generations… As a genealogist, I am especially proud of the extraordinary collection of birth, marriage, death, and photographic records which are so critical to the documentation of our individual histories.”  From 100 Year Association of New York
