Maestro Magnus Mårtensson:

Swedish/American pianist and comedian Magnus Mårtensson has appeared across North America and Scandinavia and critics have called his act both “hilarious” and “clever.”

In past seasons his one man show “Excuse Me, Does My Piano Count As One Carry-on?” visited New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Chicago, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Toronto, Minneapolis, Vancouver, Edmonton, Seattle, Stockholm, and Ft. Lauderdale, while the 2008 performance at the United Nations made the Honorable Ban Ki-moon titter. Recently Mårtensson has performed at Carolines on Broadway and appeared on American and Swedish TV.

Also active as conductor, Mårtensson has premiered 50 new works and conducted opera and symphonic music. He is co-founder of the Slee Sinfonietta(Buffalo) and the Scandinavian Chamber Orchestra of New York, and has guest conducted with the New York New Music Ensemble, International Contemporary Ensemble, the Trondheim Soloists. and the Monday Evening Concerts in Los Angeles. He has recorded for Centaur, Mode and Mindfeel record labels.

Mårtensson’s opera, Before the Law, was premiered in Buffalo in 1997, while his chamber works have been featured at the June in Buffalo Festival and the Mid American Center for Contemporary Music. Kvasir for String Orchestra was most recently performed at New York City´s Carnegie Hall.

Mårtensson is the author of the book Thoughts, Verse and Further Nonsense and he was in 2011 awarded the American Scandinavian Society Cultural Grant in recognition of his great artistic talent.
