Aina won Finland’s Melodi Grand Prix Song Contest when she was just 10 years old\, and she comes to New York with her mother Nina to celebrate her 18th birthday. \nA little history: Aina’s great grandmother was the famous “Tant Henny\,”; leader for many years of Barnklubben Elsa Rix of the Vasa Order of America. Her grandparents\, Herby and Lillian Andersson were the first accordion students of Walter Eriksson of Brooklyn. Penttilä – Jyrki Karvinen\nIn collaboration with FAWN\, we invite you to join us on October 19th for a conversation with author\, Jyrki Karvinen\, about Finland’s long road to NATO membership.\nFinland announced in May 2022 that it wants to join NATO. Thus ended a long era marked by a belief in a combination of military non-alignment and the NATO option. \nThe book is based on personal experiences\, observations and revelations from 1989 till 2022. It starts with the termination of the YYA agreement\, the Finno-Soviet Treaty of 1948\, in 1991 and extends to examining the future challenges of Finland as a Nato member state. \nThe book deals with the core issues of foreign and security policy. Why did political decision-makers lull themselves into skepticism\, even though Russia hardened its line? And what kind of position should Finland aim for as a NATO country? \nAbout Jyrki Karvinen\nJyrki Karvinen\, born 1955\, is a Finnish international journalist\, non-fiction writer and communication professional. He has written several books on international politics\, such as European integration\, the wars in the Western Balkans\, the Winter War and Finland’s path to NATO.
