Alfa Rós Pétursdóttir is an Icelandic visual artist, who lives and works in NYC as of 2020, previously based in Brussels, Amsterdam and Reykjavík. She works mainly with fiber media, using various different fiber methods such as embroidery, cross-stitching, and tufting for larger pieces. All her works are based on her primary medium of choice: Her drawings.
Alfa graduated with a Bachelor degree from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam in 2011. After graduation she moved back to Iceland and worked part time on her art along with a full time teaching job and finishing a postgraduate degree in Applied studies of culture and communication from the University of Iceland. She held private exhibitions and participated in a group exhibition.
Alfa has been working full time as an artist from the year 2018 and those years have been quite formative in her artistic career. Instead of using a pencil and marker for her drawings, she started using a needle and thread. Since then, there has been no turning back from textile art, which she continues to experiment and play with. Her art is both a world of its own and her alter-ego, rooted in the bittersweet adventures of every day life.
In New York Alfa is registered with the gallery Pen&Brush and participated in the gallery´s summer 2023 exhibition.
