Finland announced in May 2022 that it wants to join NATO. Thus ended a long era marked by a belief in a combination of military non-alignment and the NATO option.
The book is based on personal experiences, observations and revelations from 1989 till 2022. It starts with the termination of the YYA agreement, the Finno-Soviet Treaty of 1948, in 1991 and extends to examining the future challenges of Finland as a Nato member state.
The book deals with the core issues of foreign and security policy. Why did political decision-makers lull themselves into skepticism, even though Russia hardened its line? And what kind of position should Finland aim for as a NATO country?
